Zesty Party Pretzels in a bowl on plaid wool

Zesty Party Pretzels

Tammy Circeo
This is my remake of a recipe that I got from my grandmother. Hers called for more oil, packaged ranch dressing seasoning, lemon pepper, and a boatload of cayenne! I've dialed back the oil, created seasonings to mimic the packaged ranch dressing, and cut back on the cayenne so that the kids can enjoy these, too!

Servings 2 pounds

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pretzels I make these with gluten-free pretzels!
  • ¼ cup oil I use avocado oil.
  • ¼ cup buttermilk powder see notes
  • teaspoons dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon dried dill
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ½ teaspoon granulated onion
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon black pepper
  • teaspoon paprika
  • teaspoon cayenne

Instructions

  • Empty the pretzels into a large bowl.
  • Measure the buttermilk powder and all of the spices into a small bowl. Pour the oil in and mix together thoroughly.
  • Pour over the pretzels, then using a large spoon or spatula, toss them to coat evenly. Set aside and stir every 10 minutes for 30 minutes just to ensure even coating.
  • Store in a large glass jar or canister. Or package for gift giving.

Notes

In my grandmother's recipe, she said to put everything in a large paper bag, then shake the bag every few minutes for about 3 hours so that everything gets well coated and the paper bag absorbs the oil. Because I make these with less oil, I just stir it all in a large bowl before storing.
You can find buttermilk powder on the baking aisle or on Amazon. My store carries both the Saco brand that is linked here and the Bob's Red Mill one. These are not sponsored mentions, but the link is an affiliate one.
If you want to make these Zesty Party Pretzels even zestier, increase the amount of cayenne pepper!
