Ranch Dressing is one of my favorite salad dressings that I, in fact, rarely eat on salads. I prefer a flavorful olive oil and flake salt, or a simple vinaigrette. But Ranch Dressing still has its place! I love it on is a taco salad and then I like to mix it with a bit of salsa. I also choose it for a Cobb Salad rather than blue cheese dressing. It's also delicious on baked potatoes, accompanying Chicken Wings, and as a dip for pizza.

Traditional Ranch Dressing is dairy-based with sour cream or yogurt coming in with that unmistakable tangy kick. So delicious, but not beneficial to those who limit or have eliminated dairy products.

All the ingredients for Ranch Dressing

I love Danielle Walker's recipe in her Celebrations cookbook, but to suit my tastes better, I changed a couple of things. One thing I didn't change is all the fresh herbs ... parsley, dill, and chives ... because, well, fresh herbs are AMAZING! But I prefer garlic powder to fresh garlic because I don't care for the pungency of the fresh. Sometimes, it's absolutely called for, don't get me wrong, but in this, I like it to take more of a supporting role. Another adjustment I make is to increase the lemon juice a bit. Without the sour cream or yogurt, I find that adding a bit more lemon juice to taste really helps with the tangy bit. It's totally up to one's taste preferences, though, so you do you, OK?

    Why make it from scratch?

When you wonder why I wouldn't simply buy a prepackaged seasoning mix or a bottle of prepared ranch dressing at the grocery store, take a few minutes next time you're shopping to {try to} read that ingredient list. Unpronounceable ingredients and additives galore! No thanks, folks, I'll take homemade every time!

    Bon Appétit!

And for those who don't have issues with dairy, here's a bonus for you! Full of dairy ranch dressing! 🙂

I have always loved nurturing and feeding people. My cooking style is influenced by my Southern parents, time living in Europe, and the foods available in the Pacific Northwest, where I lived for over 20 years. I cook from scratch and strongly support local farms and producers, believing that food plays a pivotal role in our quality of life.
